Energy demand over time

Renewable Energy Potential

How much energy could we generate by renewables like solar panels or wind turbines.  This shows the maximum achievable and how much of this has actually been identified in real projects.  The pie chart shows the mix in capacity (kW).

Hydroelectric - 900kW

Annual Generation figure based upon realistic installation (in terms of cost) of 10 hydroelectric turbines on the River Frome (trunk) and 1 turbine on each tributary (12 tributaries). For the purposes of all of the same capacity.

Solar Thermal - 11.33MW

Solar Photovoltaic - 9.06MW

Wind Turbine - 10MW

Results have been skewed by the influence of the large MLSOA - E02006047 on the total area.

Biomass - 400kW

Energy Efficiency Potential

How much energy could we save by energy efficiency technologies like insulation or heat pumps.  This shows the maximum achivable and how much of this has actually been identified in real projects.  The pie chart shows the mix in savings (kWh).

Loft Insulation (0-50mm to 300mm) - 748 x 4MWh = 3GWh

Double Glazing - 2320 x 4MWh = 9GWh

Solid Wall Insulation - 3792 x 10MWh = 37GWh

Cavity Wall Insulation - 4703 x 3MWh = 15GWh

Loft Insulation (50-199mm up to 300mm) - 8162 x 1MWh = 10GWh

Draught Proofing - 12000 x 725kWh = 9GWh

Floor Insulation - 12632 x 1MWh = 18GWh
